Our Trip to Isle of Skye, Scotland

Sam and I wanted to test out our new VW campervan before our tour around Europe in July. We decided that a 3 day tour around Scotland's Isle of Skye would be the perfect way to see what the old girl is made of - she passed with flying colours dispite horrible weather conditions and lots of bumpy roads!

This is the only glimpse of sunshine we had at the beginning of our trip before it turned into this............

Our first stop in our travels was at this awesome campsite - The Red Squirrel. It was just like nature intended, casual, easy going and situated along the river Coe with 22 acres for camping. It reminded us of the Queenstown / Arrowtown area - very beautiful.

After a big breakfast of coffee, bacon and eggs cooked on our handy dandy gas stove we were ready for the next leg of the journey which took us on the ferry over to the Isle of Skye.

Was very cold and blustery!

We come across this little lonely church that was sitting on a hill in the middle of nowhere!

I finally tracked down a Highland Cow - who wasn't very happy with me being so close to her and her calf (so didn't want to get too close to those big horns!!)!

Our next stop for the night was at Sligachan Campsite - a place with fabulous views but very exposed to the elements (as the poor owners of the tents behind me found out after a night of very heavy rain and gale force winds - a few of them even resorted to sleeping in the woman's bathroom!!). Good news is we were nice and cosy in the VW enjoying a nice meal and glass of red..........

We then setted off north following the coastline and came across a few landmarks......

It was sooooooooooo windy!!!

After all the running around in the rain and wind we decided to warm up in a cosy bar and smaple a drop of the local Ale - went down a treat!

One of the many cute coastal villages we passed.

I was very excited to come across this castle on our trip - can't remember the name but it sure looked magical!

The end of our journey and she did us proud!

Great to see your photos, brought back memories if my time on Isles of Skye taking panoramas. I remember the bar in Glen Sligachan well - over 200 types of whiskey and a fantastic venison burger! The castle you passed was Eilean Donan Castle.
